I need the 4 digit code for my VW cabrio, because my radio is locked out...How rediculous is that......can any one help me??????

I can't help you but I feel your pain. I have a Audi A6 and when I disconnected one day my radio locked. If I were to take it to a dealership it will cost a pretty penny. The code if supposed to be in my manual but that page is ripped out! I ride around with a little portable radio in my car, it sucks.

If you take your radio off you dash board then your problem is won't be a problem anymore. The code is actually on the side of the radio and be sure to write it down so everytime your radio goes to safe mode, you can unlock it right away with no hassles

Wow that sounds easy but when I look at my dashboard it doesn't look very easy to take apart.

Now that your next problem, how to take the radio of the dashboard. Why don't just take it to a mechanic. I've tried taking a stereo off a car and the result is not so good 'cause of a few scratches on my dashboard. Just let the professionals do it.

That sounds much easier the only reason I didn't take it to a mechanic in the first place is because the closest Audi dealer is about an hour and a half away and it would have been real expensive for them to get me the code. I guess since the code should be on the side of the radio I wouldn't have to have them get the code just take the dash out and get the code.

Just like Sunny, I'm worried about the scratches if I will take the radio by myself. Does someone here know how to prevent the scratches while taking the radio off the dashboard.

Did you try contacting a place that puts in audio speakers and cd players in a car? They might be able to help you out, and know the code to put in the cd player to get it working again. I know this is also probably an obvious question, but did you try looking in the cd player manual? Also, if you bought the car used and it already had the cd player in it, try contacting the previous owners to see if they know the code.

I would agree with Duaine, I would definetly try that you should have lots of luck with that.

Did you ever get that code to unlock what you were trying to unlock?

Duaine that was a pretty good idea. Thanks it worked like a charm. The audio people still had to contact the dealership for the code but since they were asking and not me I got a huge discount. Thanks again.

MB, it is good you finally found your way out of the fix. I have learnt to memorize simple codes and they come in handy when in a problem. VW dealers can also be of help in the future. Now that you have the code, it could be wise to keep it from anyone else's reach.

I'm very glad to see that I'm not the only one with this kind of problem.. Well not me exactly. My uncle went through this same ordeal and let's just say it was a pain in my behind. I know why the VW and other car makers do this, but why do they have to make it so difficult?

I do think it is more of business Snarf; to make sure you keep going back to them each time and in the end, who stands to benefit? You are right, them. They know most car owners will try to engage in even the most simple tasks that would derail their energy. Anyway, next time I am sure you will be able to fix the problem

What I didn't get is, does the car manual have the code in it or not ? Or is there a separate radio manual with the code? Has anybody ever actually found the code in a manual and entered it to reactivate the radio?

Hi!

Looks like you can get your radio code right on internet. Check this out!

Good luck,

Jacko

Get someone who does car audio to remove the cd deck from the dash board. The problem with this though, is that if the dealership sees signs of tampering whenever you decide to take the car to them, they may not want to work on your vehicle. As long you have a warranty you should take the car to the dealership. If you have no warranty or it's up, it's best you let someone who knows how, to help take the deck out for you.

Having a table of all the important codes you have to memorize is always welcome. Keep as many copies as possible. That's what I do so that I don't misplace the codes these companies give me.

Keeping a list of codes for particular items should always be considered an option. It's so easy to misplace stuff though, but that's just taking into consideration someone's own ability to keep important things, like information and so forth, safe. Maybe not in a safe, per say, but safe nonetheless.

Jacko: on this website it has 2 steps to retrieve your code. Step one is: enter your radio code!!! For this you have to remove your radio and look at the side. There we are at 0 again!

AND if you have removed your radio (with or without scratches), you have to pay 29.99 to BUY the code. Not nice. I think it's kind of a rip-off, it's probably cheaper contact your dealer or go to a shop.

What a rip off indeed. I can't believe that after you purchase a product and some problem occurs causing a malfunction that the owner of said product would then have to pay a fee in order to retrieve the required information. What a load of garbage. I'm sure that many would find this to be very irritating. Can something be done about issues or this particular kind?

I think nothing really can be done except boycott those services by NOT USING THEM. Just don't click on anything and don't buy anything on their website so they don't make money off you.

But there are probably enough dumb people (or desperate people) who do...

Dumb and desperate is a serious statement to be made. I do not believe that any one of my fellow men are dumb and or desperate but more so that they are made to think in such a manner and are often kind hearted and tricked into making bad decisions by people who just want to earn a buck and care not if they must take advantage of someone's kindness in order to do so.

It is sort of like how some people tend to claim others as being idiotic, and do so redundantly in today's society.

This is about society more than anything, and the way they have it set up. I am very certain that the people in charge do not truly care about their fellowman's well being. They only require making more money than they already have and acquiring a lot more property than they have already obtained.

The poor man will never be victorious in this world designed for the very very rich to reign supreme.

Frustration indeed. I did not realize that this was a forum in which to vent with posts of a, somewhat, damaging nature. But why is it about a Volks Wagon radio? I am absolutely shocked at what I wrote prior to this, because it is a venting forum. If I had realized I would not have been as easy going about the issue. It is indeed a disgusting thing to have to got through as much issues as MB did, just to get back his four digit serial code.
