Answers: Should I start talking to my ex-boyfriend again?

We went out for about 8 months. We kept getting in fights so he broke up with me. I was devasted and depressed by this for a few months. I tried not talking to him for about a month and was still miserable. Then we started talking and I was happy again and we kind of got unofficially back together for a few months. However, I wasn't sure how I felt about him- I really liked him but I kept getting annoyed and mad at him- so I ended things with him. We kept talking for awhile, and at one point I realized I still liked him and wanted to try getting back together with him again, but he didn't want to. He also told me that he liked another girl. I decided I had to stop talking to him all together because if I kept talking to him, I was never going to get over him. It's been about 6 weeks that I haven't talked to him now. For awhile it was actually pretty easy and liberating not to depend on him anymore. But lately I've been thinking a lot about him again. I really miss him...we used to talk all the time everyday. I have friends but I don't have any friends that I'm as close as that with, and I miss that. Should I start talking to him again? I'm afraid I'll start to like him again and get hurt...but I feel upset not talking to him at all anymore. What should I do??
