'Reputable Hotel, Sleazy Taxi' Some Business

I can't imagine why a reputable hotel would call a sleazy taxi driver for their guests! When checking out of a nice hotel this morning I asked they call a taxi.

The driver said he wanted 500 pesos for a ride to the airport. I asked him to use the meter. He said no 400 pesos. I said 100 pesos was more like it.

I had been told that the ride to the airport should be less than 100 pesos on the meter!

At the airport the meter read 264 pesos though I can't say it started at zero or that the driver too a direct route. I ended up paying 350 pesos.

The bottom line: the taxi driver won, but at the expense of the hotel. Obviously I won't suggest anyone stay at that Hotel or return myself.

It hardly makes sense to treat your guests well only to give them over to someone who wants to cheat!

I happen to have the same experience that you had Albert. There are lots of reasons why taxi drivers do that kind of cheating, some said that they do that because they want to earn extra money, but the bottom line is that they are cheating. And this kind of practice should not be tolerated. Anyway, just do not let them do that cheating to you. Have a great day.
